My name is James, and welcome to my mancave! Here I will be showing the things I've made and the process to make them. I enjoy making, fixing and restoring almost anything. There will be tool reviews along the way, and the odd bit of 3D printing.

My garage workshop just seems to keep getting more and more messy each time I look at it. I've had enough of it, time to sort out some of those small storage jobs I've been meaning to do. Many items in my workshop don't have a dedicated home, so they end up cluttering up every flat piece of workspace I have. Thanks for the info. I was about to buy one, now having second thoughts.
Brilliant build Thanks for sharing
Great steps.. well explained..👍 But get rid of the stupid music..😵
I want to do this with my poetry but with plaques, and acrilic.
Love what your doing James x Frankyboy
Hello stranger, thanks for watching. 👍
Where did you find the file for the clock and did it require anything besides the laser? (e.g. paint, stain)
I bought the clock file off of Etsy, apart from the different plywoods that came in the Xtool DIY kit I didn't use anything else
Thank you for this!
Thanks for watching 👌
@@JamesManCave hey James....notebooks both formats in home bargains 69p each with the correct type of spiral
Lots of interesting ideas here James 🥃 👍 😊
Cheers Tony mate 🍺🍻🍺
Thank you Mate, Looks like you've been having lots of fun in the Laser room 👍
@@Everythings_Adjustable it's a bit of a state at the moment, making more and more news things constantly. Really enjoying it
The slate looks realy good whan waxed.
I've since discovered rubbing some olive oil on them works great as well
👍👍👍 Great ideas. Thanks James
Thank you as always Pete 👍
Love your work. I,m an S1 user but I am not sure how to make the template for the holes to go in. Any advice please?
Thanks, do you mean the holes on the notepad template? It's quite simple, I measured how far in and down the holes are from the top, and then put my first hole there, then used the grid features to add the other holes and spaced them accordingly
@@JamesManCave Ooo you make it sound easy. Grid features?
Grid array it's called. You can evenly space the holes out that way
@JamesManCave hey ....got some of the notebooks but couldn't undo the spirals as they weren't built in the same way...where did you get yours from?
@@thatpartyband1966 got mine from the works. I take it you have the spiral style ones? You can still use them but have to sorta unscrew them
Dragon????? I bet your friend did not enjoy that... First because it's a lion and second dragon is the rival's logo 😁😁😁😁
Ok, I'll go as far as saying it's a big cat
Thanks, But unfortunately I had to stop watching the video as soon as the background music came on. It's next to impossible for me to focus on anyone talking while music is playing. Background sounds take over and that is all I can hear, and no matter what I do I just can't get myself to focus. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people out there like me.
@@JamesManCave I'm sorry, I have no idea what that means. Big cat? 🤔
Oooopps. I posted the wrong reply to your comment, and the other chap got your reply! 😩 I meant to say, engagement on videos without music and just sped up sounds shows a huge drop off, where as with music the engagement doesn't drop off. Now, that's not to say that if I pick the wrong music the drop off will also happen.
Very nice. Well done. Your skills with designing and constructing are well developed.
Thank you!
Sorry if already mentioned but what engraving laser do you use ?
Hi, it's the Xtool D1 pro 20W 👍
Being out of pocket (at the start of your video) is not ‘profit’ as your screen text states
It does say my profit is minus X amount. It's an easy visual understanding for people to see
James, do you have a link for the box you made? I want to make one for my shop. Thanks mate!
apologies I have only just seen this. I don't have plans, but i did show my rough sizes on screen
no worries at all. I was just thinking maybe you saved the file and you’re able to put it on a website or email it to me.
Sorry no, that was back when I was still trying the machine out and I just made everything without saving stuff 😔
How long does it take to engrave the chopping board ?!
It depends on the design really. Quickest was about 45 minutes, and the longest was about 1hr 40.
I own the titan/screwfix version of this saw and I tell you the blade guard, fence, and throat plate are vastly superior. The fence is as solid as can be (0 drift, very strong adjustable lockdown) and adjustable length for various indeed and outfeed requirements, no only that but the fence is covered in T track allowing you to mount your own attachments suck as indeed rollers and fence extensions. The blade guard provides much better coverage of the blade and is very easy to add or remove with just a spring loaded pin holding it to the riving knife. The throat playe is very sturdy but obviously if you desire 0 clearance you can make your own plate
Yours is the only review that advised what the stop at the rear back is for, ie 30 or 33 deg (can’t remember what you said ) 👍 I noted the clamp has a screw where I assume the clip was, it’s now 2024.
- Thanx for sharing. Either jig is VERY relevant when one need thin strips. Thanx again.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😎
Best video on the net on the pusher wood block
Thanks 👍👍👍
Did you know that one pence is one penny? They only become pence when there's two or more, even in America. I was curious so I looked it up. Neat, huh.
Lol, yes I did. In 1971 when Britain went to decimalisation on currency, the 1p coins had 1 new penny written on them. Good question 👍
Good idea with the second laser channel, more focused audience and frees up here for your other workshop builds
Yes, I can also make laser projects quicker then I can woodworking stuff, so makes sense
I would love to see some laser engraving on some jewellery
Keep tuned, plenty of stuff like that to come
Coasters are not wasted get cork and put it on the bottom over the mistake and engrave the opposite side
Great idea, but the wooden coasters I used were not made from the best materials so wouldn't be worth saving
Getting organised is always worth the time investment... and an excuse to buy new tools apparently ;)
Unfortunately, I'd already bought that new tool and didn't have room for any more purchases 😕
Some oils are spontaneously combustting. So warning!
My brother has a woodworking business on Etsy, and lately, I've been trying to help him out a bit. Your videos have given me some good Ideas!
I reckon my workshop is worse than yours. My wife lets me buy new toys but then I have nowhere to store my timber
I only sorted my timber storage out about a year ago. It's not ideal, but it does free up some floor space
I remember years ago making a bit of money because I was amounst the first wave of people who had lashed out on to what was back then the new cutting edge technical wonder that was the inkjet colour printer ! I was convinced I could make a little business out of it. However within no time at all everyone else had a colour printer. Not only that their printers were faster , better than mine and a fraction of the cost .. I can understand people getting excited about these fantastic machines, but MASS OWNERSHIP of laser engravers, 3D printers etc is just around the corner SO BEWARE !
Yes, I certainly get your point. And with laser engravers, the big business have much larger industrial co2 engravers. All the items I made are mass produced by virtually everyone who gets a laser engraver. So a tough market to crack. I think the key to actually making money with a laser, is to 1 - find a niche, and 2 - gain local business. I'm not saying this will allow you to give up a full time job, but as a nice little side hustle, I think it would work well.
Yes, you can use this income to subsidise the machine somewhat. A personalised local market is definitely the way to go.
Hi, do the engraving tool, ever wear out or need replacing?
Hi, the laser module from xtool has a minimum life of 10,000 hours of use. Thats 8 hours of use a day, every day for the next 3.5 years. Which is quite a lot of use
@@JamesManCave thank you.
Would be awesome to know if that x-tool is modular and a basic kit price.
There are a few different options for this laser, you can get an extension to make this laser larger also
use a pushstick on the table saw and NEVER reach for the off-cut with the blade still running. Listen to this advice while you still have all 10 fingers please!
Thank you for your advice. I will continue to work the way I do, it may not be suitable for you, but it suits me
Yoy have removed the blade guard, have no Riving knife, stand straight behind the blade waiting for a kickback to hit your torso, use no push stick and reach for off-cuts in close proximity of the blade while its still running. You are violating all safety procedures I can think of in one video. I tried to give you some advice but ok, you do you. I will however report this video considering you are broadcasting this video for others to "learn from".
You also forgot to mention I wasn't wearing a full face shield either! There IS a riving knife fitted if you look, I am also stood to the side, but you fail to take in the camera angle. I don't recall there ever being a minimum size of cut for which you must use a push stick. Oh, and when you first buy the saw, you have to fit the blade cover on first assembly, so as it wasn't fitted in the first place, technically I never actually removed it. Please do what you feel necessary, as I will continue to do regarding using my tools. 👌
@@EspenShampoo25 ahhhh, so now I see your lack of knowledge coming through. When you make that sort of cut with a grooving blade or dado stack, the riving knife would actually lift up the wood as it passes over it, making the cut much more dangerous, as the riving knife would sit higher than the saw blade. Brilliant 👍
@@JamesManCave ua-cam.com/video/LLvXrmLLvKs/v-deo.html thank me later 👍
Thank you i needes this!
Bang goes my free fire wood 😔

G’day Knackers, how’s the milk run job going mate 🧐😁
Dirk you old shagger! How the devil? I was looking for you on Instagram the other month, I see you're no longer on it
@@JamesManCave No not doing anything anymore mate as life changes going in different directions. Good to see you’re still toiling away & giving it a heave ho. Carry on Sir James 🤠👍
@@sumosprojects sorry to hear that Dirk, but it's good to hear from you anyway. What ever you're up to now, I wish you all the best 🍻🍻🍻🍻
Good amount of changes in the workshop, James. That spindle sander is really useful. I have the other version of that Triton oscillating sander, which predictably, is left catching dust somewhere in my garage :D
Thank Suj mate, nice to have the place in some sort of order. It was a toss up between the one you have and this one, but as I'm not sure how much I would use it, I went for the cheaper option 😁
You need air assit to stop the overburn.
Air assist was on, but with such a deep engraving you will always get some smoke residue on the wood
8:09 There's a sound in the background track that lines up SO satisfyingly with the brad nailer firing off!
I noticed that whilst editing it, I'd love to say that was arranged like that, but it wasn't. 😁
Nicely done! I can never bring myself to actually paint my workshop furniture, but it makes it look so much nicer!
Thanks matey. I always paint my stuff as 1, I had some plywood get mould on it once, and 2, it's cheaper then varnish 👌
@@JamesManCave Mold isn't a problem in my workshop, so leave everything untreated... 😁
Great video as always 👏
